More than four decades after helping define (together with some other bands on Good Vibrations Records that got way more famous) the sound of Belfast’s late- ’70s punk explosion, PROTEX are back with a new album that proves the spirit of punk never retires. Sticking With You finds the Northern Irish icons trading a little of their youthful velocity for melody, warmth, and the kind of effortless songwriting that only comes with time. Tracks like “It’s Not the End of the World,” “Too Many Bullets,” and “Hanging Round for Summer” capture the album’s easygoing spirit: sharp melodies, bright guitars, and lyrics that balance hard-earned perspective with the band’s timeless sense of optimism. While the pace may be more laid back than their early singles and classic debut LP, the DNA of Belfast’s original punk scene still runs through every note. It’s the sound of a band that knows exactly who they are—and is enjoying every minute of it. These days the members of PROTEX may have stepped away from their day jobs, but retirement hasn’t slowed them down.
