Hidden Knives, The - Same LP

The young Munich-based band moves somewhere between snotty garage drive, clear ’77 punk references, and those catchy power pop melodies - complete with hooks that stick in your head faster than you’d like to admit. The album drives forward and remains pleasantly varied - sometimes more fast-paced, sometimes much calmer, but always full of fresh energy. Singer Tobi – who is known for his more aggressive vocals in Choke Combat - carries the songs through frustration, heartbreak, and hope with a raw, forceful voice. In between, there’s a declaration of love for his hometown of Munich- without any pathos, therefore even more credible. Finally the Munich-based band surprises us with a gentle ballad that sounds like the last beer at the local pub and the wobbly walk home - with The Hidden Knives playing in your ears.
