Formed in 1994, The Living End are a three-piece band from Melbourne, Australia. Their breakthrough single "Prisoner of Society" was released in 1997 and became the soundtrack of a generation in Australia and around the world. The band has released eight studio albums to date, and with this release their first ever anniversary album.
"The Living End" was originally released in October 1998, debuting at #1 in Australia and spending 27 weeks in the AUS Top 10 and 83 weeks in the AUS Top 100. Since then, the album has sold over 500,000 copies worldwide. Six singles have been released from the album. The original album of the same name is accompanied by a live recording from Australian music station triple j. Recorded in front of a live audience shortly after the release of the breakthrough album, it shows a band on the cusp of greatness, whose energy and unaffected emotion can be felt from the first note.
The recording had not been heard since its one-off radio broadcast in the late 90s. It was considered lost until it was discovered on a fan site in 2022. It was remastered in 2023 and perfectly embodies the spirit of one of Australia's greatest live bands.
