Although never part of the first wave in the late 70's, Guitar Gangsters could easily be described as the "older statesmen" of British punk rock. Founded in the late 80s by brothers Pete and Phil Ley, the band proudly takes inpsiration from the musical melting pot of their hometown, London - from punk and glam to rock 'n' roll and reggae. Their debut album, "Prohibition," was released on Link Records in 1988. For more than 35 years and over 1000 shows, with this, the band's 12th studio album, Guitar Gangsters still have more than enough ammunition and drive to clearly set the tone on Revolution Street! Anyone who listens to their new album will have no doubt about the strength in these performances. With incredible playfulness, an unerring instinct for rousing power chord melodies, catchy riffs and hooks, and a confident style that spans all eras of rock, "Revolution Street" is their most diverse album yet always remaining uniquely Guitar Gangsters and rooted in their punk rock sensibility. The album takes us from the classic timeless '77 punk of "Suck it up" and "Fake" to the pub and garage rock of "Without Prejudice", moving through to glam rock 'n' roll and that '80's period where guitar pop merged with punk and new wave with the track "Invisible" and the sixties influenced "Car Crashed Heart." It's no surprise then, that with "Baby Blue," by Badfinger the '70s lost rock classic is revived... in true Guitar Gangsters' style, of course! There's so much to discover on "Revolution Street". After almost 45 minutes of playing time in true Clash tradition, the album ends with "Warzone" with a casually cool elegance and superb songwriting, the gentlemen of punk rock have locked and loaded their 12-track magazine. Sing, smile, laugh, get excited and even enlist for the cause with Guitar Gangsters. Revolution doesn't always have to be bloody and aggressive, and Street cred is either something you have or you don't.
