Ricky Rat - Songs In C Major Love LP

Most people know Ricky Rat as the guitar-wielding, polka-dotted bandit in Detroit glam-rock giants the Trash Brats. "It's kind of scary stepping out front," says Rat. "I never really wanted to be a solo guy, but I had stuff I wanted to put out." The music on Rat's debut effort could be considered an extension of the Trash Brats catalog, with Rat staying true to his love for '70s glam and power pop. "I'm not the type that would make a jazz or hardcore record," he says. "Most people who like the Trash Brats will probably like the musical style." In the '90s, the Trash Brats were known on the Detroit club scene for their catchy glam-rock tunes and wild onstage antics. The band still performs on occasion. The biggest difference you'll hear on this disc is that Rat is out front as the lead singer. In the Trash Brats, he sings backup. Rat didn't stray too far from the Trash Brats comfort zone when he looked for musicians to record with. Trash Brats singer Brian McCarty is playing bass and doing backup vocals, along with another Trash Brat alum, Troy Toma on drums. For the live shows, guitarist Derek Murtagh (Troubleman, Circus Boy) has been added. Rat kept things simple, recording the disc on his own. "I didn't want to make it sound too modern. I like the old '70s record sound and wanted to have it sound like that whenever possible."
