Penetrators, The - Gotta Have Her EP

Windian Records reissue of a classic 7? originally released in 1976 by “Syracuse’s Only!”, The Penetrators on the Fred Records imprint. Self described as the “Kings of Basement Rock” this single will surely expose the rebellious teenager in ya. The A-Side, “Gotta Have Her” is a jangly pop garage affair with some hints of punk worship. Definitely for all you garage poppers out there. Vocals are talky and in yr face. Think the Sonics, Kingsmen, 60s garage, etc with an updated feel but still the trashcan/basement production that makes garage recordings sound right. The infectious pop-centric guitar lines are clean and reverbed (at times you think it’s gonna get surfy, but it never does). The B-Side, “Baby, Dontcha Tell Me” is more ripping, and a bit grittier. More punk, and more blown out. The vocal delivery is a spot on semi-mellowed out Iggy – Rolling Stones-y but with a punk edge the Stones never showed ya. The packaging is as close to the original as one could get circa 30 some odd years later. (Review by Bobby)
