Drunk & disorderly punk from the green
grassy fields of South Wales, The Sick Livers seem like a nice bunch of
lads, even though their tastes are limited mostly to their album title
Motors, Women, Drugs, Booze & Killing.
I say mostly – they are
also fans of loud guitars and frantic belligerent punk tunes, the likes
of Gimme The Drugs, Get Ready and Sick Liver spelling out a crystal
clear manifesto for their stormtrooping assault on the ear drums and
vital organs.
It’s no surprise that The Sex Pistols’ Glen Matlock is
quoted on their website as loving the band – this is exactly the sort of
thing Sex Pistols and Anti-Nowhere League fans are going to lap up like
the mohawked cats who got a saucer of cream spiked with catnip.
Blood
On Your Halo is only a Lemmy-like growl away from early Motorhead,
whilst there is more frenzy than a rabid dog in a phone booth on Cocaine
Jeans and Seven Year Itch.
Bummed To Death is the suitably frenetic
and classy cherry on the Sick Livers cake, closing out this short sharp
shock of an album the same way it started – 100 miles per hour and in a
blur of spit, sweat and alcohol and gasoline fumes.
