Hormones, The - Legendary Junk (1994-2017) LP

€13.00

Tim Stegall was a strident punk rock fan growing up punk in the rough South Texas oil-and-ranching hamlet of Alice. As a veteran Chronicle scribe and Hormones bandleader, he quickly became a key figure in the insurgent scene that grew out of clubs like the Cavity and Blue Flamingo in Austin's during the 90’s. After hearing this Anthology, it’s apparent that the Hormones were big fans of bands like Johnny Thunders, the Dead Boys, Heartbreakers, the Clash and the Rolling Stones making their songs really stick with Stegall’s distinguished tonsil-shredding vocals and historically informed pop smarts.
Their 1994 debut single "Sell Out Young", that’s included on this retrospective, finds all the Hormones catchyness in place from the beginning. There’s also other gems on here like the slopped-up rockabilly undertones of "Cartographer of Love" and the pine-away hooks of "Julie's in Love" that defy punk rock's lockstep without giving up it’s punk rock grit. They also throw in some unreleased songs like "No Love in the Modern World" from the band's aborted 1996 album which hints at what might've been had Stegall managed keep the band going before their premature untimely demise.
This reissue includes that classic debut single along with a hand full of alternate mixes of other Hormones classic, two unreleased tracks, a few demo recordings and a couple hard to find compilations tracks. The LP comes with an 8 page zine insert and a download code.
